Aims and objectives
The Psychology Programme is devoted to the orientation of the students in the different sub-specialties in psychology, but it is also opened to related disciplines. The Programme offers a basic education in psychology specialties, and in major theories and techniques in psychology, and as such gives a first approach to psychologists’ skills and to research in psychology. Students encompass general theories, the empirical evidence and application of knowledge in applied areas of psychology with a sense of purpose that helps improve the human condition in various settings, for example education, work, economics, sports. From the very start, the programme is organized to integrated blocks of theory-method-application cycles. This model assumes that students have gained equivalent knowledge, skills and competence.
Career Prospects
a. Graduates from our Psychology Programme are ready for entry to post-graduate programs. Our programme provides a solid theoretical foundation for students to succeed in postgraduate studies pursuing specialized MA or MSc programs. We have a number of students who continued their studies in the UK and USA and obtained MA or MSc qualifications. b. Our graduates are also fully prepared and equipped for various positions in practice in which they can apply psychology to every-day ? life questions in order to enhance the well-being of individuals, groups and systems. The areas are: clinical setting, education, industry, community, economy etc. In addition, they can be involved in other areas such as traffic and transportation, consumer behavior, and areas associated with growing cultural and ethnic diversity. Our graduates can closely work with professionals in other fields, in multi-disciplinary teams, for example teachers, doctors, managers, lawyers, and so on. In all these areas they can add a distinct perspective which complement that of other professionals. Based on information feedback from our students and employers, we are satisfied from the employability record of our students and the quality of their work. The case can also be made that the language of tuition is a valuable addendum to employability. The language of tuition at the University of Nicosia is English which is now almost everywhere recognized as the international language. While people from many countries are not happy with this state of affairs, it is a fact of life and adds to the employability of our students.
